Brief
In response to the rising costs of food, it is more important than ever to encourage students and parents to make use of complimentary school meals. Amey approached us with the task of revamping their school meal brand across their schools in Renfrewshire and Edinburgh. Our mission was to reimagine school meals, making them not only flexible and enticing but also an attractive choice for every student from primary to high school age. We were challenged to position the brand as a compelling alternative to popular high street fast-food options.
Process
Calling on our extensive experience working with schools in Scotland, employing a mix of strategy, branding, illustration and messaging, we rebranded the school meal service as The Square, symbolising well-rounded square meals and serving as a vibrant meeting place. Our design approach embraced a modern, cool, and simplistic style, creating a visually appealing brand for students. To cater to the tastes of primary school-aged children, we crafted a sandwich character with playful and changeable features.
Outcomes
We developed a playful and modern brand that effortlessly extended across a range of mediums, including, packaging, posters, serveries and digital media. This approach resulted in a uniform and consistent look across multiple schools. Most importantly, sentiment about school meals have improved, footfall has increased and sales have increased month on month, with one school reporting an early 62% increase in free school meals use. Over all, a happy client and happy students.
